The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus

One of the famed Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the structure arose at the behest of King Mausolos, who decided to move his capital from Mylasa to Halicarnassus (modern-day Bodrum) and wished to erect an impressive monumental tomb for himself. It featured grand stairs and burial chambers and was adorned with large fluted marble columns.

Completed around 2,400 years ago, the building was damaged in an earthquake in the early 14th century that left it in ruins. The site today is home to pleasant gardens and visitors may explore the excavations.
