"Leadership is not a position or a title; it is action and example."

Vice President Turkey

Alexander Regelmann

What do you like about your job?
«Educating younger people and shaping the future of our industry gets me excited about my job. I was born into the hotel business – for me, it is not a job but a way of life.”»

When did you start working for MHA?
«In 2010, I came to Turkey and started to work for Doğuş Group as the General Manager of D Maris Bay and managed the conversion of Club Select Maris. This was followed by the openings of D Resort Göcek, D Resort Sibenik, Murat Reis Ayvalık and Il Riccio Beach House as the Doğuş Group increased its investments in hospitality. Today, I am in charge of operations in Turkey.»

How does MHA differ from other collections?
«The different locations, hotels that are completely different from each other, high-quality service and out-of-the-box thinking when one it comes to serving our guests. We don’t limit our team members; they use their creativity to strive for the best. At MHA we appreciate the individuality of each property. We do not try to make them similar; we believe that richness comes from diversity.»

 A hotel for you is…
«A home away from home.»

Three crucial things you want to find when you check into a hotel:
«Smiling people, Wi-Fi and laundry service that is fast since I travel a lot and wrinkle my shirts.»

Quality for you is…
«Perfection and the unexpected wow factor.»

A few words to define high-end hospitality:
«I cannot describe it in five words but I can tell you a story. The best hotel in the world is “Hotel Mama,” the house of my family where I am always welcomed with a genuine warm hug. My mom always prepares my favorite food; she knows by heart my preferences. And when I leave, there is always a great farewell, a small travel box with food. She is always genuinely sad and wishes for me to come back again. This is the atmosphere we want to create in our hotels.»

What was your dream job when you were a child?
«A fighter pilot in the Air Force.»

Can you describe your family?
«Since 1955 my whole family has been in the hotel business –hospitality is in my blood. Even now, when I go home, we look at old guest books to remember fond memories of when we were greeting politicians, celebrities and movie stars. I was welcoming them as a kid in the restaurant. Not surprisingly, I am married to Elena, who also works in hospitality. Our family is multicultural: Elena is part Russian, part Korean and I am German; it provides us with a wider perspective and understanding of life. And I have a collection of pets: Maximus, a German Shepherd so that I feel at home in Turkey; Oscar, a Gray African parrot; and Ginger, a crazy jumping Jack Russell.»

If tomorrow you could travel to the moon, what would you pack in your suitcase?
«Not my wife :). A bottle of Riesling wine and a cigar to enjoy the nice view of the Earth.»

Where did you live and which country is home for you, or is it really in your heart?
«I lived in Germany, Russia, Turkey but I went to boarding school when I was ten. For me, home is where I feel comfortable and loved; therefore, Istanbul is my home.»

Do you have any particular hobbies or passions?
«History, vintage sports cars and watches.»

What would you change about the world right now if you could?
«I would like to eradicate hunger all over the world and make drinkable water accessible to everyone.»
